Glencoe Round
Long before the success of the Glencoe Skyline race, runners were doing rounds in Glencoe. Pre-1997 there were only 5 designated Munros in Glencoe and these were linked in 1980 by Bobby Shields in 7h5m, in a route linking Bidean nam Bian, Stob Dubh, Stob Dearg, Meall Dearg and Sgorr nam Fiannaidh.
In 2006 Peter Duggan created a route taking in the now 8 Munros (Stob Coire Sgreamhach, Stob Coire Raineach and Stob na Broige having been promoted in 1997) in ‘an unambiguous circuit linking every 3,000ft top and the same extended Aonach Eagach from the Devil’s Staircase that Bobby Shields later told me he’d also taken in preference to the road from Altnafeadh to Allt-na-reigh’ in 10h55m31s. In 2013 Jon and Dan Gay improved this to 10h2m41s.
